Thumb selfies without elections: Pakistan's political irony

Summary Thumb selfies on hold

LAHORE (Web Desk) - As the much-anticipated election day of May 14 in Punjab came and went without any actual elections taking place, Pakistani citizens were left scratching their heads in confusion.

Social media users took to Twitter with their sarcastic remarks, mocking the Supreme Court's order to hold elections on May 14, while there were no signs of any electoral activity on the ground.

In a sarcastic turn of events, social media users were quick to remind each other to upload pictures of their thumbs on social media, as if they had cast their votes. However, it seems that this time, the thumb selfies will have to wait.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had dissolved the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa earlier this year, with the aim of putting pressure on the federal government to hold the general election in the country.

However, despite the Supreme Court's orders and numerous negotiations between the government and the PTI, no elections have been held in Punjab.

Citizens of Pakistan are now left wondering whether there will be any elections at all, or whether this is just another case of political manoeuvering and grandstanding. Only time will tell if and when the people of Punjab will have a chance to cast their votes and choose their representatives.

It seems that the political parties are more interested in power games and negotiations than fulfilling their duty towards the people.
